God in a Box 04:40
GOD IN A BOX You remember that tune about seven women The songs they sing can make a man wonder Round and round my head goes Each woman I’ve met tried to leave her mark “Don’t blame me”, she said, but I woke one morning With “devil” scratched on my back And down by the river I met a maiden We talked to the moon then she and a sailor stole the night Saying “my last name’s ‘Goodbye’” One says I’m funny and another storms out of the bar I’m just a crummy human being, guess my best friend’s my guitar Honey, you know where you can go Round and round my head goes Give me life, then explode I’ve lived with a princess, she always did what she pleased I was told it’s all a matter of priorities But I took all I had left and I flew The last song I sang said she’d follow the sun First time I met her thought I found the one When she read my thoughts she said I really put god in a box Round and round my head goes Give me life, then explode Round and round my head goes Give me life, then explode

ONE HARD RODEO While I tell it like it is The House is shakin’ down People stand in rows flowering lapels The voices fill the halls We pay these people well Their nights are long, their children fall asleep waiting While I tell it like it is The moon is blinding bright And the betting men are wagering We’ll forget their last disgrace The old guard’s in costume Button slogans, songs we believe in This world has become one hard rodeo One hard rodeo Dream of riding up high One hard rodeo Dream of riding up high While I tell it like it is My hero’s still alive He’s kicking off a bronco In the dust he feels afire Standing in the saddle a distant piece from here Dreaming and feeling of life inside One hard rodeo Dream of riding up high One hard rodeo Dreaming of riding up high One hard rodeo Dream of riding up high One hard rodeo Dream of riding up high, ooooh yeah….

IN YOUR HANDS Picked up an old friend We sang a song or two She’s such a charmer Always good for a few Never away for long For nights, for love’s advice Before you wish like a kid Win a panda on a lucky throw Lay into a story book You know I Don’t believe we’ve loved before With the light And the shine And the breakers on my feet Be there for me now Sentiment and beaming smiles Finding new ways To get in touch with you Always on time for you Love flows too seldom Before you wish like a kid Win a panda on a lucky throw Lay into a story book You know I Don’t believe we’ve loved before With the light And the shine And the breakers on my feet Before you wish like a kid Win a panda on a lucky throw Lay into a story book You know I Don’t believe we’ve loved before With the light And the shine And the breakers on my feet

STAR SPANGLED TEARS December ’73 was the year for me Berkeley was quiet, speech was already free Peace with honor rang through the town Nixon was crowned a Republican clown Nam has slipped past I had dodged that action Few felt unscathed With little satisfaction This was the front underneath Sather Gate No flowers, no protests, only the weight See my love You’re not here long Rise above Be my song We had done the unthinkable over scores of years Drowned 50,000 in star spangled tears This was the heavy we paid to wear Choking our country, never again we’d swear Well we dodged the gas The bullhorns went silent Like the napalm dropped By a thousand pilots Pieces of lives scattered to the corners The country tried to live inside its borders See my love You’re not here long Rise above Be my song Be my song Be my song

70 Westbound 04:01
70 WESTBOUND 70 Westbound, in a Denver frame of mind Put your R&B away when you drive across Colorado The smell of diesel in the air Countin’ every mile to San Francisco Thinkin’ back to a girl I once knew She’s a lonely kind of woman Who could make it with only one man Standing at the bar With the muted trumpet perkin’ in the background While the crystal sings And her sun tan radiates on my face And I’m crunched in this corner Thinking of more serious things Like rolling my eyes Up and down her And what it must be like to be stronger And to think we’ve got one chance to be close 70 Westbound A chance to be close 70 Westbound Sun on my face 70 Westbound…
